The reach was intelligent
Start with what your body was actually doing. Calm is a signal, not a virtue. Your nervous system has its own calm brake, and by evening, after a day of stress hormone, it runs low, so the tension has nothing left to switch it off. The reach for the glass was your body finding the only available pharmacological answer to that shortfall.
It was problem-solving, not self-sabotage. That is the part worth saying plainly. The relief is real. The mechanism is rational. The first sips reached the brake, the shoulders dropped, the day finally exhaled, because a tired system got the one signal it had run out of.
It was never weakness. It was a smart body doing the smartest thing it had available.
